If you live in California, your vehicle needs a Smog Check every couple of years to renew the registration. We perform both kinds — regular Smog Checks and STAR Smog — at our shop on Main Street in Chula Vista. We’re also CTC (Clean Truck Check) credentialed for the emissions side of heavy-duty vehicle compliance.
Here’s the plain explanation.
Regular Smog Check vs. STAR Smog
Regular Smog Check: This is the standard inspection most vehicles need at registration time. Any licensed Smog Check station — including us — can perform it.
STAR Smog: California’s STAR program is a higher tier within the same Smog Check system. Some vehicles are randomly directed to a STAR station; others are sent there based on the state’s monitoring data. Your DMV registration notice will tell you if you specifically need a STAR station.
We’re a STAR Smog Station, so if your renewal notice says “STAR,” we can take care of you. We also handle the regular checks, so if you’re not sure which one you need, just bring the notice and we’ll sort it out.
What we do
- Regular California Smog Check
- STAR Smog Check
- CTC (Clean Truck Check) — emissions compliance credentialing
- Repairs to get your vehicle to pass, when needed
What to bring
- Your DMV registration renewal notice
- The vehicle’s registration card
That’s it. We’ll handle the rest.
A note on diesel
We do not service diesel engines. Our CTC credentialing is for the emissions inspection side of the program, not diesel engine repair.
